Isiah D. Kortright

I am currently reading Our Time Is Now. I had originally planned on reading A Handmaids Tale but I havent checked it out of the library yet. Our Time Is Now is a story told by high school student Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. who is a part of the national underground school newspaper movement. It provides different views of the movement (and social and political issues) by including columns from different high school underground papers across the nation. So far its really interesting and motivating.

Take The Power Back by Rage Against The Machine is the song I can connect to this book. The song describes the ignorance the american people have about the government and thats its time to, yes... Take the power back. The underground newspapers were doing just that for students, parents, and teachers.

So called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their God
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
Yo, we gotta take the power back...
